For the briefest of moments, I actually thought I had a shot with the most beautiful woman in the world. There I stood in a pen of reporters Tuesday night, watching Sports Illustrated cover model Kate Upton glide down a red carpet outside the Crimson Club on E. 21st St. She was a vision in red tall and beautiful and totally out of my league. With every elegant step she took in my direction, I cursed my editor. I was staring at every man’s dream, but I couldnt believe what I was about to do. An hour earlier, I was sitting in the newsroom blissfully typing up a cute story about couples who got married on Valentine’s Day. Suddenly, an editor rushed to my desk and said he’s got a special job for me. “We want you to ask out Kate Upton?” Say what? I protested immediately. I’m engaged, I pointed out. He didn’t care. I’m supposed to be cooking my wife-to-be dinner tonight, I argued. It’s VALENTINE’S DAY. He wasn’t hearing it. The editor said there was no way I was getting out of this one. He even had the gall to point out that since I appeared in a Dove ad once, Kate and I had something in common |
